I think this is a great idea. I also think that gay and lesbian entertainers shouldn't go on the View, because of TLB's and Sherri Shepard's ignorance, when it comes to gay marriage. It's okay for them to laugh and rub shoulders with the gay celebrities, but the two of them are against those same celebrities being able to marry. It's time for people to really take a stand as GM-Erika & Lisakate did by protesting. As soon as something is organized in my town I will also join the protest.
-----------
"LOS ANGELES - More than a week after the passage of Proposition 8, activists opposed to the ban on gay marriage have shifted their protests to new arenas -- using boycotts to target businesses and individuals who contributed to the winning side. They were married Nov.1. (Lori Shepler / Los Angeles Times) The effect of the boycotts remains unclear. Merchants said that the overall poor economy made it difficult to tell whether their businesses were declining specifically because of the threats.
But the protests have been highly visible and have drawn strong objections from backers of the initiative. "No matter your opinion of Proposition 8, we should all agree that it is wrong to intimidate and harass churches, businesses and individuals for participating in the democratic process," Ron Prentice, of ProtectMarriage.com, said in a statement. Boycotters were "unabashedly trampling on the rights of others," he said. Activists behind the boycott effort argue they are simply exercising their political rights. "People are determining who their friends are, and who are not their friends," said Fred Karger, a Los Angeles resident and retired political consultant.
"I think people need to be held accountable for their financial support." The activists have pored though campaign contribution databases and then "outed" Proposition 8 donors on sites like Facebook.com and craigslist.com. "People are going to do what they want, and it's in this society where you have campaign reporting that is all public information," said Karger."

Some times this is what it takes to get things accomplished.
Wow...I wrote about this today too...
Boycotts are definitely legitimate, peaceful methods of handling disputes. I have no issue with not purchasing something or using the services of a company being run by a disenfranchising bigot. If someone wants to dump up to 1,000,000 in a campaign not even in their own state through the protectmarriage.com group, I have the right to boycott their business and I will. The donors are public knowledge on SFGate.
I definitely believe in boycotting. And I'm glad that people are standing up to this legal prejudice and holding the prop 8 supporters accountable.
I can't stand TLB's reasoning that just b/c the majority voted for prop 8, it should be accepted. I love that people are not tolerating this anymore. The main reason people voted for it was due to religion, imo. If we are a nation of separated church and state and a nation of equality for all, then this proposition should never have been considered since there is no basis for it.
ITA about entertainers boycotting the View. A greater impact would be all entertainers against prop 8 should boycott. That could really send a message. They are letting TLB and Sherri perpetuate hate.
Erika,
Great comment!
Char,

Sandy ,
